To Use: Massage into temples forehead and/or back of the neck as needed to relieve migraine headaches, tension headache and ease feelings of nausea and anxiety.
Ingredients: Feverfew, Peppermint, Lemon Grass, and Catnip infused Olive oil, Beeswax and Vitamin E, Peppermint and Lavender Essential Oils.
Feverfew: Feverfew, a member of the daisy family, is perhaps best known for its use as a migraine reliever and has demonstrated favorable results in placebo-controlled clinical trials focusing on headache and migraine sufferers. Feverfew has also been used to lower body temperature and help relieve arthritic and rheumatic pain with its strong anti-inflammatory properties. Feverfew works to inhibit the release of two inflammatory substances, serotonin and prostaglandins, both believed to contribute to the onset of migraines. The feverfew plant contains a wide variety of natural substances, including sesquiterpene lactones, flavonoids, and volatile oils. Of these, the compound parthenolide is considered the most active. While researchers are still trying to identify feverfew’s key mechanisms, parthenolide appears to lower the frequency and severity of migraines through its inhibitory action on the hormone serotonin.
Peppermint: Peppermint oil for headache treatment is effective for both occasional and frequent headaches. Peppermint is known to be calming and numbing. It is believed that these properties make it helpful for people who suffer from migraines and tension headaches. Peppermint oil can also provide relief from nausea that sometimes accompanies headaches, migraines and post-operative surgery. Headaches and migraine pain are often due to poor blood flow. Peppermint oil induces a significant increase of the skin blood flow after local application. Peppermint oil’s effects are long-lasting, increasing blood flow and relieving muscle contractions. Peppermint’s essential oils serve as headache treatments because they safely and effectively treat the headache trigger, getting to the root of the problem instead of minimizing the pain temporarily.
Lemongrass: One of the most recognized characteristics of lemongrass oil is its ability to promote feelings of peace and tranquility. This is useful for people who have a hard time relaxing or sleeping. The calming and soothing effects of lemongrass oil has the power to relieve the pain, pressure, or tension that can cause headaches.
Catnip: The most important health benefits of catnip include its ability to calm restless sleep, relieve anxiety and stress. Although the exact mechanism isn’t completely understood, catnip has proven to be very effective in the treatment of headaches, even chronic or long-term migraines. Rubbing a catnip leaf salve on the temples can offer rapid relief.
